    With the rapid development of technology, people are used to using social media to meet new friends on the Internet nowadays. Through the

Internet, they can expand their social circle easily and

conveniently. In addition, people tend to lack time and

opportunities to build up a new relationship with others. It

forms a trend that people use online applications to look for

their Mr. Right. However, it doesn’t mean that traditional

dating is outdated and inferior. Instead, real-life relation

also has its distinct advantages. Both of them can help people make new friends. There are three differences between online dating and real-life

relations. One is the first impression, another is the

opportunity of expanding social circle, and the other is the

flexibility of interaction. Through comparing those

differences in the two ways, they can find out a suitable

way to build up a new relationship.

    When people date a stranger, they tend to look at his or her appearance first. In other words, first impression is significant to most people on their first date. In online dating, first impression is shaped by other factors, such as age, career, and hobbies because there is no face-to-face contact initially. In addition, some

people may be interested in strangers on the basis of

seeing their profiles on the application or the website.

Thus, people may encounter a situation that who you

meet for the first time does not look nice and disappoint

you at your first meeting. While, in real-life relations,

people are prone to looking for a person who is attractive

to their eyes first. As a result of seeing the charming person in person, they don’t have the disappointment and astonishment at their first meeting. From this, real-life relation is more actual than online dating.

    Contrary to real-life relations, online dating can increase people’s opportunity of expanding the social circle. In real-life relations, people may only build up their relationship in limited areas, such as school, workplace or neighborhood. In general, they don’t have specific ways to expand their social circle. Thus, real-life relations decrease the opportunities for people to find out their Mr.Right. However, through online dating, people can meet different people worldwide. It is helpful for those who are lack of opportunities to make a new friend. Therefore, online dating allows people to build up a wider social circle. 

 

        

       Finally, one very important difference between online dating and traditional dating is that via online dating, one can have the flexibility of interaction with a new person. In an online environment, people have opportunities to sit back and chat first with no interruptions and no inhibitions. In other words, this allows people to get to know more about a person's interests, religion, and personality before they meet in person on a date. On the other hand, getting acquainted with strangers on a traditional date can be more difficult. The environment plays an important role and there are usually certain apprehensions on a first date, as a result, people may not chat with each others more relaxed. Clearly, the flexibility of interaction in online dating may be better than real-life relations.

    Both online dating and real-life relations share the same goal of building up a new relationship with others. While people may prefer either online dating or real-life relation as a matter of personal taste, it is essential that online dating addresses some of their liabilities and that traditional dating takes advantage of some of the opportunities available from online dating. In my opinion, people don’t need to decide which is superior; instead, they should make good use of an appropriate way to look for their true love. After all, where there is love, there is happiness. Once building a relationship with others, people create their happiness successfully.
